Just now, Leica’s official website suddenly launched an iPhone accessory called the “Leica LUX Handle”.
This is a camera handle specially made by Leica for Apple iPhone. It is suitable for iPhone 12
and subsequent models and is priced at 2,380 yuan.
The handle uses Apple’s MagSafe magnetic technology, which can be easily attached to the iPhone
and automatically align the lens position without the need for complicated buckles.
It weighs about 130g and has an aluminum body, which is both light and durable. It feels similar
to a traditional camera when held and is easy to operate with one hand.
It is equipped with a two-stage mechanical shutter button, half-press to focus, full-press to shoot,
and a rotatable dial to adjust shutter speed, aperture, and exposure compensation.
There are also two custom buttons, which perfectly restore the physical operation logic of Leica
cameras and support backlight display parameters.
In terms of battery life and compatibility, the LUX handle is equipped with a USB-C charging port,
and the built-in battery can be fully charged in 2 hours, which can support about 1,000 shots.
However, the premise is that it must be used with the Leica LUX App, and it is not compatible with
the iPhone native camera and needs to be connected to the Leica exclusive app via Bluetooth.
However, the Leica LUX App also brings a unique experience. It has a built-in classic lens
simulation function, and can also manually adjust parameters such as ISO and white balance,
so that photos can bid farewell to the stereotyped filter style.
In addition, the handle also comes with a brown leather storage bag with an AirTag protective cover.
The natural leather will produce a unique luster over time, which is very Leica style.
Using the LUX handle can transform iPhone photography from “casual shooting” to “professional creation”.
Traditional mobile phone photography relies on touch screen operation, while the physical buttons and dials
of the LUX handle allow users to focus more on composition and parameter adjustment. It also supports RAW
format output, providing more space for post-production creation.
Moreover, compared with bulky full-frame cameras, the combination of LUX handle + iPhone
weighs only about 200g, but can achieve a control experience close to that of professional equipment.
The magnetic design is convenient and quick to disassemble, suitable for travel or street photography.
However, the LUX handle is also controversial. The price of 2,380 yuan is obviously higher than
similar products. Although it has the Leica brand premium and leather accessories, it still makes
many people feel expensive.
In addition, it is also forcibly bound to the Leica LUX App, which ensures color uniformity but
sacrifices the convenient functions of the iPhone’s native camera.
In general, the target users of this camera handle are mainly those who pursue the portability
of mobile phones and are fascinated by the operating texture of Leica. For ordinary users,
it may be more practical to spend this money to upgrade the mobile phone lens.
