Preface
Recently, there are new revelations about Apple’s new product line. This time, the protagonist is the long-rumored HomePod with a display. MacRumors found through analyzing Apple’s background code that Apple is developing a long-rumored new home accessory. This mysterious home accessory appears in Apple’s background code with the identifier “HomeAccessory17,1”. This is a brand new device category.
It is worth noting that there are currently no Apple products under this device identifier category, and the device model is very similar to the “AudioAccessory” identifier used by HomePod, so it is very likely a HomePod product with a screen. However, the addition of the “17,1” suffix may indicate that the device will have more advanced functions or positioning.
Chip and performance
Judging from the leaked code, the 17,1 in the identifier name indicates that this device will be equipped with the A18 chip in the iPhone 16 series to be released later this year, which means its performance will be very powerful. Moreover, this new HomePod will run tvOS-based software, which is similar to the current HomePod, but it will definitely be more functional.
What’s more interesting is that 9to5Mac, a foreign media outlet, earlier discovered an unknown Apple device, codenamed “Z314”, which also runs tvOS but uses an A15 chip. This shows that Apple is exploring a variety of different smart home devices, including a three-in-one device that integrates Apple TV, HomePod and FaceTime camera, and a HomePod that can rotate the screen like a “robotic arm”.
Design Exploration
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is trying a variety of smart home device designs. Imagine a screen that can rotate so that you can enjoy smart services in any corner of your home. Isn’t it exciting?
The A18 chip of this new device may bring a series of new AI features, such as Apple Intelligence. These are advanced features that the existing HomePod cannot provide, which makes people look forward to it.
And related reports, the code also mentioned two unreleased Apple TV models, namely AppleTV14,4 and AppleTV14,5. There is no detailed information about the specific specifications and release time of these two Apple TVs, but I believes that they are likely to be released in the fall.
